Re: I haven't given up..... yet.

I would think it would be extremely difficult to put the vertical lines on a curve piece. You are doing very well for just learning. You do have me curious as to what the hint is for burning lines is. Jim, drawing the lines is relatively easy once you build the jig that Harvey Meyer demonstrates in...

I haven't given up..... yet.

This basket illusion thing is much harder than I ever imagined it would be. I had already started burning lines on this when Steve M dropped a hint to me that took a while but eventually led to a light coming on. Thanks Steve! So, this one is still done in the banging my head against the wall method...

Re: Amphora Verde

Congratulations Bob. This is a very interesting and beautiful piece. If it's OK I have a couple questions, if not just ignore my curiosity. I know that at this level of work there are things that are off the table. But minus the stand, is this carved from a single piece of wood or are the wrap aroun...

Re: A Geometer's Treasure box

Mike, congratulations on the POP thing. When I read the line "This form was accomplished totally on the lathe with no carving involved." I thought that was an unusual twist for one of your pieces. I'm still wondering how you were able to hold this and turn all 6 sides, make a box joint, and hollow i...

Re: Still Fresh Out There!

Really unusual weather this year. Here in N Utah we've averaging 10-15 degrees above normal, all the snow is gone, sky is blue, air isn't even too bad. I've been out on my patio in the mornings with the sun reflecting off the house. It has been 60 degrees or so out there and comfortable in a sweatsh...

Re: In for a loooooong learning curve!

Don't suppose there is any chance you are going to tell us the story about that burnt spot at about 12:20? Chuck, that's a knot. And the whining piece turned out kind of comical showing just how inept I am at trying to freehand a design into a non gridded format. I could write a book on what I...

In for a loooooong learning curve!

Ever since I saw one of Jim Adkins basket illusions I've wanted to try making one. Then Steve Mawson started making some and got me pumped up even more. I've thought of taking a class but I'm not a classy person. Thought of asking Steve M for some advice, actually tried but Chuck wouldn't let me pos...

We'd best watch what we say about David. He's still sneaking in here frequently to see what's going on. I'm betting he will be back active here one day.
That would be nice. I often wonder what he's been up to.

Re: Can't add photos

Steve, I just tried to download the same photo I posted in the Pyro'd vase post and it won't take it either. So I must be jinxed! I noticed no other photos have be posted, is anyone one else having trouble that isn't an administrator?

Ok, I googled how to remove metadata, got the same result........
ERROR

Re: Can't add photos

Curt, if you remember, we had a few issues with the 'Lightbox' program that we use to enlarge the thumbnail images. Don't know if that is the case here or not but have a few questions for you: What are the pixel dimensions of the image you are trying to upload? And, does that image still have its m...

Can't add photos

I've been trying to add photos both in a regular post and in a PM. I get that little yellow triangle symbol to the right of the download bar. Clicking on that it tells me the size limits and says my pic is something like 3200 x 2400 . That is the original size on the camera but I've cropped and resi...

Re: Blackwood vase Acacia Melanoxylon

Hughie after all the carving and sanding and sanding and sanding on your beautiful spirals you probable breezed through this one in a matter of minutes. ;) It's a beautiful piece of wood and as some of the others have said, a better photo might make it look even better. But I think this one is just ...

Cruz....horses?

Mike, these hay burners you have, what are they? Race horses, breeding stock, family pets? I've always wondered by the little snippets of info you drop about them. You seem to have a pretty fancy setup for them.

Re: A Bit Chilly Today

They have a saying here in Utah (and probably many other places too), "if you don't like the weather, give it a couple hours and it will change". But we're having a very mild winter so far. Knock on wood. Other than a 10 day inversion just before Christmas, it's been pretty nice with not much snow. ...

Thanks all of you for the comments and encouragement. ps: What kind of burn unit do you have? The Hawk has one port and the eagle has two. Dick, I have the Hawk with one port. In one of Molly Winton's videos she talks about that adjustment you're referring to. I'm just going to have to do some exper...
