Looks great. I think the pewas really add to it decoratively as well as functionally. How much work are they to do?

Re: Murmuration

As you know, I'm a sucker for carved and painted and this is a masterful example of the style. Also great to see that you've found a way to combine your two passions. My choice for TOTW 2/18/18. Hope I'll get to see it in Portland!

Re: Splits and cracks, but not a leg in sight!

One of my favorite shapes, Les, and it shows the wood off well. Might have gone a tad thinner though not sure the wood would allow you to do that. Also seems that the transition to the widest point at the bottom is just a bit abrupt. Very subtle nit picking point but thought you would appreciate ful...

Late to the party as I've been out of the country for several weeks but looks like you did a great job! Hard to believe you're just figuring the technique out. Congrats on a well deserved TOTW.

Re: 3-Legged Bowl

I really like this one, Les! And I agree completely with your assessment. Love the way the legs protrude through the piece and definitely has a retro vibe to it. I think you did a nice job with the curves and proportions.

Here are a couple pics showing the leaves before carving. Don't have any of the handles but there was a lot of trial and error involved!

Re: Amphora Verde

Thanks, all. Here are a couple of in process pics. The leaves were carved from a band left proud of the surface. The handles were a real bear and the crux of the project. They are carved from separate pieces and fitted to the form. Used cardboard templates to get close and still took multiple attemp...

Amphora Verde- Winner TOTW 1-28-2018

Honored to have had this piece selected for the AAW POP show, "Out of the Woods- Traditional Form Revisited". It is based on the traditional form of the amphora. About 6" tall, turned from madrone, carved and then painted with acrylics. Amphora Verde small 1.jpg Amphora Verde small 2.jpg Amphora Ver...

Re: Tea Time

I love collaborations. When done well, the voice of each individual artist comes through loud and clear yet the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. This piece fits the bill. Michael created one of his classic Gibson tea pots which became the perfect canvas for John Mydock's pyrography magic....

Re: Bear was here

Really like this, Wolfgang. Your design has a nice "graphic" feel to it and is well balanced without being too symetrical. The colors work well. Clearly a Doug Fisher influence but I think you are moving it in your own direction which is the real challenge. Great to get influences from the wonderful...

Re: Ambrose Maple NE Bowl

Really nice. Great idea to go with an ogee curve on a natural edge bowl giving it sort of a refined rusticity. Not sure why we don't see that more often. Will have to give it a try.
