Pete - congrats on winning the TOTW honors! I like your design and love the form! I agree with Mike on the photo. Backing off just a bit will add dimension to the photo as well as remove the fish-eye effect. Here is the link for Facebook if anyone would like to share: http://woodturnersunlimited.com...

Re: Peppermill and salt shaker - Ambrosia Maple

Like Hughie, I have yet to make a set of these. I agree with everyone else - the forms on these are very pleasing and the wood really grabs your attention. I can see having a set of these gracing the family dinner table! Very nice work Tim!

Re: My new shop

I also never got to meet Wally but did email with him many times over the years. Got to know him when writing an interview over on Sawmill Creek and also when helping provide materials for Bob Rotche when he wrote Wally's Behind the Art interview here. Wally was a great guy who managed to influence ...

Looks like quite the shop! Any chance that is the same one Wally Dickerman belonged to? If so, the club has a notable turning history!

Bob - congrats on winning the Turning of the Week honors! Well deserved! This is a very interesting piece. Great form and I really like your use of color! For some reason it reminds me of something I might have seen during the late 50s/early 60s. Very nice work! Looking forward to seeing where the c...

Re: Polar shaft completed (more or less)

Like everyone else, I am looking forward to seeing this project completed and hopefully get to see a few photos of your grandson using it! For now, I am happy to see each section of your project as it is completed and have to admit that I had no idea just how complex creating a telescope actually is!

Re: Monterey cypress

Jesse, I don't have any personal experience with this wood because of region but a quick search makes it look like it would be a good wood for turning. Give it a try and let us know how you like it. Another source of info would be from your turning club members. http://www.wood-database.com/monterey...

Jerry, I am so sorry to hear this. Thoughts and prayers sent to you and your family.

I think your urn is beautiful. No better tribute than creating something that you have poured your heart and soul into.

WOW Les!! This is a very impressive piece! Love the ancient feeling this piece has as well as the sense of motion it radiates! Should be a real attention getter - whether in your shop or in the exhibit! Good luck!

Re: My McNaughton Copy

Jerry, ever since our last software update we have been experiencing issues with images, and unfortunately, it is not something we have control over. While there seems to be no rhyme or reason for this to happen, Chuck and I have found that if you vary the physical size of the image so that the long...

Re: Persimmon

I don't think I have ever seen anything turned from Persimmon before - at least not anything that I can remember. This is some really pretty wood with exceptional dark hues. Reminds of when I put walnut stain on some Jack Pine goblets back when I had first started turning. Very nice form on the bowl...
