Re: Twisted- Winner TOTW 11-19-2017

Mike - congrats on winning TOTW! No words come to me about this piece (simply because it is out of my comfort zone/skill set) other than to say that I really enjoy the flow! Had to laugh at Curt's ear reference and must admit - I had the same thought. As much as you are enjoying creating fluid motio...

Beautiful piece Ron! Congrats on your sale! The wood looks to be natural and was wondering what finish you used?

Re: new Pa turner

Hi Skip - Welcome!! Learning to turn can be a blast ... or very frustrating if you don't get some guidance. Best thing I can recommend is for you to get in touch with a local turning club and get some one-on-one turning advice. Here is a couple of links for you to help find a club: http://www.woodtu...

Re: Some more ornaments

Curt - your ornaments are always top tier and these fit right in with the best I've seen! I hear you about getting a true purple color when mixing dyes. I tried it a few times, then just bought the purple dye I wanted. You can get some really different colors mixing blue & red - but it never see...

Re: Going to the top.

Love all the vibrant colors and texture variations! I'm sure each will bring a smile to whomever receives it! Nice work and I really like the idea of turnings being sold for a charity. Will have to check with my club to see if that would be something to do that would also add to member participation...

Re: Headed back North

Sounds like have been enjoying life! That's great! Been cooling off up here as well with high temps around 36* these days. We have gotten a few snow showers but nothing sticking to the ground at my location. Hope you have a safe trip and even more fun at home! Next time - please remember that we LOV...

Re: Had a Storm

Today is the second day that a 2 man crew from the power company is here clearing the broken trees from the power lines in back of my house. Seriously - it is a major mess. Lots of fun working in 30* temps with snow on the ground but it is the U.P. and it is just something you dress for. Going to be...

Re: Customer pics

I think that the idea has some really cool marketing aspects, whether at a show or on a website. Could have a photo album called - Family Album, Photos of the Kids, etc. Make it such that folks will want to add their photos to the story - which in turn adds to your advertising platform. Good luck wi...

Very impressive work Bob! Love the color combo, the texture, but most of all, the flow! I know everyone will see something different when viewing this piece but to me this captures the essence of a dancer! Love it!

Re: Had a Storm

Thanks Curt & Chuck! The house made it through everything just fine. Seems most of the damage around here has been to the trees. Haven't heard of any homes getting hurt. Here is a pretty cool video of a place called Black Rocks, located on Presque Isle, a nature reserve located just to the NE of...

Had a Storm

Had a nasty storm come roaring through here on Tuesday, Oct. 24. They posted warnings about it, so we put everything in our shed and brought the bird feeders into the garage. Woke up Tuesday morning about 5:30 am with the sound of the wind. 7 am we lost power. Started my generator so we could have s...

Re: Mixed media

Mike, the bowl turned out exceptional and I can see why it sold quickly! Would be interesting to see the bowl in a few years once the cherry has had time to darken. Good luck with your full-time turning business! It could become a lot of work but nothing better than being your own boss - doing somet...

Outstanding form - seriously - well done! I have to admit that the contrast between walnut and holly is dramatic and I agree that some will love it, some won't. I think it is great and if you are still undecided as to what to do with the bowl, please donate it to me - I'll pay shipping! 2thumbsup Ni...

Re: Drailles

I am not going to say if this form is good or bad, only that it doesn't appeal to me. I understand breaking the rules but also admit that I personally prefer some type of catenary curve when viewing a form. While I really like the carving here, I find the form boxy and somewhat unexpected. Seeing as...
