Re: A Geometer's Treasure box

Looks like fun, I believe I can see why you were juried into the POP with the piece working well into the theme. Is this in the pieces that are auctioned off at the symposium? If it is will be very interesting to see what it sells for :) :) . Guessing a high number. Also a big congratulations 2thumb...

Re: Raised Platter

The stand really makes the platter look special. Still not sure how you made the stand but it's quite impressive although without the little piece of holly I don't believe it would show off the platter near as well.

Re: In for a loooooong learning curve!

Hey Curt you have come a long way. Jim only uses 2 colors and Harvey more some of the time. With Jim's style he burns the pattern first then colors it and after all the pattern is colored he fills in the blank space with the burning pen. Harvey burns in all the lines then applies the pattern so perh...

Re: Grape Juice Container

No snow here, only a sprinkle yesterday but more rain to the north. Mid 60's today, full sun, with mid 70's forecast for the rest of the week and weekend. Chuck is right on the ink. Faber Castell Pitt pens are india ink and they do not bleed like the Copic inks. I put danish oil over the ink and let...

Re: BUGS

Ray, they fly out pretty fast when the lathe is on :) . Sometimes I pick them out if they are close to the surface. They might be called powder post beetles and I have seen quite a few of them over the years especially in wood that has been cut for longer periods of time. Sometimes I fill the holes ...

Steve, if you were a good friend, I'd have choice words for you right now! :D Right now, our real feel is -6. It will be -10/-11 for most of the night. I've lived here (in MD) my whole life. Yes, I'm about an hour north of where I grew up and have lived until 14 years ago. I've never experienced th...

Re: Off Topic...I dunno.

Good luck Mike and also keeping the inventory up which is kind of two edged but the object is to sell stuff for good dollars. I juried into to two "art shows" in Fountain Hills and Scottsdale AZ this winter which I have never done before so we will see how that goes. Definitely took more gas to get ...

Re: A Bit Chilly Today

Glad you folks surviving the cold spell, Curt excepted. Left NE on the 29th at 10 degrees and by the time we hit Dalhart TX it was 73 same day, guess it dropped a lot after we went through. AZ has been unseasonably warm mostly in the mid 70's day time high. 78 today when I walked out of the woodshop...

Re: Pyro'd vase

Curt, you are off to a great start. I think the flies look pretty good-might be over shadowed by the background but not sure how to fix that. Perhaps leave more untreated space around the fly so it stands out better. The amount of heat on the tip will make a lot of difference on the line you get. Al...

Re: Just Finished-Bottle-Neck Basket

Hey Richard, I actually made a beading tool, very short-about 2" long which will fit in my captured hollowing system. That is what I use to make the beads inside the neck. Not sure what I made it out of but I think is was a piece of 1/4" drill bit. Nothing like Dave's 1/8" beading tool-wonder if Dav...

Very nice piece of timber and I believe it is a dandy piece, hope more than one person would like to have it. We have a quilt museum here at the University that has a fund raiser in November which I have been invited to participate for a couple years. They get 40% which cuts into my profits but I ge...

5 inches of snow last night so guess winter is finally here. Took awhile to scoop off the driveway this morning, I never have bought a snow blower after living in the snow belt all these years. Almost too old to buy one now :?:

Re: I guess summer is here

Sounds like fun, I can take the heat better than the cold any day. Been exceptionally mild here this winter so far, lots of 50's for highs and only one cold spell. However tomorrow is freezing drizzle forecast for most of the day so I guess it is finally going to turn to winter. Right now the plan is...

Re: Turned aged cedar beer can holder.

Hey Larry, What Les said is right on, wood always has moisture and is continually moving hopefully not so much that it cracks. That is a fairly large piece of timber and would take several years to dry, also cedar likes to crack most any time as I can attest to over the years. You have a nice piece ...

Just Finished-Bottle-Neck Basket

Just got this one done as in completed however the finish still has to go on it. About 7x7 inches with the pattern being Kitanemuk Bottle-Neck Basket. Tribe is from Southern California. Completed like the others, kiln dried hard maple,1/8th inch D-Way beading tool, however inside the neck is a homem...

Sounds like you're going to be the neighborhood go to guy for the ladies craft projects.  The snowmen turned out good. Did you get any of the bigger walnut logs? I did get several of the bigger trunk pieces. Probably in the 10-12 inch diameter range. This neighbor has dropped off turning...
