Re: More Bad Pizza

It is my turn for TOTW and like like Mike the week before l am torn between two. First l love the finished piece. Second love that you keep experimenting until you got it right. I have shelves full of pieces l have experimented with but not good enough to show, persevere and you can get the results ...

That is very cool. Did you use a fret saw?

Elegant Tring

"Elegant Tring" I have made a series of similar pieces, which l really like, but have had the hardest time taking a photo to try and show the hair is pierced, l think they look better "live" than the photos can portray. The inside is sprayed black, didn't want her to be blonde :-) A Calabash style, ...

Tea Time- Winner TOTW 1-14-2018

After chatting with John Mydock at the last AAW Symposium in Kansas City, we decided to do a collaboration. Here is the result, Tea Time, an Alice in Wonderland theme. Johns work really is fantastic, if you are not familiar with his work go to mydockstudio.com. This will be shown at the Honolulu Sym...

Re: Ambrose Maple NE Bowl

Jim, this really is a beautiful bowl. The ogee form, you nailed it, at 16' in length a pretty good size and appears to have a consistent thickness throughout. I don't mind the feet, it gives it some lift, maybe just a tad shorter, and l would stick with just three legs in the future. All this makes ...

Re: Laburnum hollow form

Wolfgang, this immediately caught my eye, and like you have been inspired by John Jordan's work, having even taking a week long class with him a few years ago. The form, and using the sapwood around the neck certainly brings JJ to mind. Laburnum wood l know is extremely hard, and l am sure the hollo...

Re: Drailles

Over the last few days l have thought about the comments here. Looking back l think most of the remarks are correct regarding the form. I had an idea in my head and went to look in my stash of unfinished work for one that had a nice grain effect. The piece l used immediately caught my eye, and witho...

Re:

However, I have an issue with the post processing of the photograph. While I am a proponent of post processing raw images to obtain a well balanced tonal range and accurate color which I think you have done well, I don't like obviously Photoshopped shadows. I have mixed emotions over this piece, fabulous form and wood. I think l would have like the inlays if the had been straight.

Regardless, l think you should still donate.

Re: Drailles

Well l thought it had a good form but l cannot go and check as it is in an exhibition, and l will not be able to see it for a couple of weeks, and I took the photos in a rush. If it is bad then l guess l will have to make another with a good form. ;)

Re: Fly boxes- Winner TOTW 9-24-2017

Thanks Michael! I gave him this box the other day and he loved it. I plan to make a few more for him but with a few changes. Just curious, on a round box would a single SOSS hinge work? Curt you are welcome, well deserved. One should work, you may have to increase the thickness of the body to accom...

Drailles

Drailles. This piece was inspired by the ripples on the side of the hills, seen during my trip to NZ, made by sheep and cattle forming tracks. The tracks also help the livestock from developing longer legs on one side of their body ;) Hollow form, made from Pear, approx. 6” dia, bleached, carved and...

Re: Fly boxes

Curt, Love your fly boxes. It is a wonderful gesture you made in making theses boxes for your friend, l am sure he will be treasure and have them on display showing his flies. I think the soss hinges may be the way to go.

Fly boxes, is my choice for TOTW

Re: V neck vase

Dave, There are a couple of things to me that make a nice turning. One, most probably the most important is the form which you have achieved here, and second it must have a continuous line which you also pulled off. My only nit pic is l would have liked to see just a hair taken off at the very botto...
