Re: I haven't given up..... yet.

Curt, I appreciate your efforts...I really do. I honestly and truly respect your artistic ability. For that reason, I'm realizing just how difficult this basket illusion really is! I don't mean that as an insult in any way. Rather, I applaud you for sharing your 'firsts' with us. In one of your othe...

Re: A Geometer's Treasure box

I really like this one! It looks so simple, but I'm sure it isn't...you wouldn't do it if it were. I can imagine making this whole thing...then realizing that I didn't make the inside 'box' large enough for all the shapes. :bonk: Yours fit...good planning.

Chuck, I don't care what anyone else says about you, I think you are super talented. That's a great goblet with nice proportions. And the pyro/coloring looks like it was done with a laser engraver. Spot on!

Re: In for a loooooong learning curve!

Curt, please take this in stride (as I'm sure you will)... But it isn't until you see someone's 'first' attempt at this that you realize just how amazing the guys that have mastered this really are. For a first attempt, this is not only a decent swing, but I'm sure better than I'd do! So, my hat is ...

Re: Who Laid This Egg?

What has Keller been up to? Laying eggs... Though I might have guessed Keller, too, he hasn't been active here in quite some time, so I didn't think that qualified as 'recently'. But this one has me pretty stumped. I might have said DD since this is very well done and right up his alley of 'I got a ...

Steve, if you were a good friend, I'd have choice words for you right now! :D Right now, our real feel is -6. It will be -10/-11 for most of the night. I've lived here (in MD) my whole life. Yes, I'm about an hour north of where I grew up and have lived until 14 years ago. I've never experienced thi...

Re: Off Topic...I dunno.

Good luck Mike. That's a big step. Years ago I was doing a lot of shows with my scroll saw work. It was like a second 40 hour job. A couple years of that and I got burnt out. I don't blame you, Terry! It IS a lot of work. At 49, I get wiped out setting up (takes me 4 hours). I don't know how these ...

Re: Cherry Burl Bowl?

Jim, you know I'm not a 'carving' guy...which your feet inherently are. But what I appreciate about them is that they don't 'look' like carving, they don't distract from the turning, and the flow nicely. I actually really like this one. It is non-conforming (or at least looks like it is bending the ...

Re: Maple Bowl

I suppose that is my point, Wolfgang. If the ring were not segmented, but rather that bloodwood ran 'with the grain' of the bowl, it would likely move with the bowl. That said, different woods expand and contract at different rates. But I still think it would be more stable/sound to have the accent ...

Re: Maple Bowl

Pete, have you done this kind of thing before? I'm talking about the segmented rim on a solid piece of wood. I've always wondered how this will hold up. The solid piece of wood WILL move, and I'm wondering if the segmented rim will move with it...without cracking at the seams. The beauty of segmente...

Yeah, Steve, it IS unseasonably cold here. Normal highs are high 30's/low 40's this time of year. High yesterday was 19* and right now (11am) it is still only 15*. That said, we are no strangers to 'cold' weather (though not your kind of cold). So, everything here (just north of DC) is well insulate...

Hehe, sounds like you've got a house cat, now, Chuck. ;) 7* this morning. I'm sure wind chill is well in the negatives. Horses are all double blanketed. We didn't bring any in the house... Cleaning up dog poop off the rug (14 year old) is enough for me. No desire to clean horse poop off the rug, too...
