Very intriguing and extremely well conceived and executed. Your piece reflects the level of excellence needed to get into the POP exhibit.

Very nice, Jim. The rim and the foot work well together giving it a little something extra.

Looks like you made the most of what you were given. The unusual form, combined with the color and crotch figure, makes this a real eye catcher.

Ron, I have enjoyed seeing these. Really nice wood! I have never seen Elm Burl and it has really nice figure. Great Job turning the form.

Re: Natural Edged Box Elder Bowl

Very nicely done. The form really shows off the figure in the wood. I like to work with Box Elder as it colors really well and the light wood does not effect the dye. I don't know if I would have colored this piece though, as it looks great like it is.

Congratulations on the TOTW! I have a McNaughton system and it can be both useful and challenging. I think the One Way system works a little better. Nice job!

Re: George's Telescope Combined Threads - TOTW 05-22-2016

This sure is a very impressive piece of work; on many levels. I agree with Bob Rotche's comments about the Turning of the Year award and the article or some other type of documentary.

Re: Cherry Burl Bowls

Jim, I like all of these. We get cherry burls frequently up here in the UP and they are carried at Bell Forest Products in Ishpeming, if you are looking for a source. They usually have some nice color and wonderful figure, so I frequently leave them without added color. When I do use color, orange a...

Re: Dyed Lidded Birch Vase- Winner TOTW 12-17-2017

Well, thank you for the kind words, Dick. I am still learning about color, so my coloring approach involves a lot of trial and error. Seldom do I get it right the first time, unless i am only using one color. My favorite colors are blue and orange in combination, but red is also common in my work. W...

Re: English Walnut Winged Bowl

Love the wood and the feet. I tend to agree with Wolfgang about the rim but that is a very minor draw back compared to the beauty of the rest of the piece.

Thanks again for your kind comments everyone. Mike, I was just trying to edit my text as I saw a typo. I did not mean to quote myself, although every now and then I do come up with some bits of wisdom that are quotable.

Re: Dyed Liidded Birch Vase

Thanks for the comments everyone. The India inks were from Blick's catalogue and seem to be a little more opaque than the dyes like Trans Trans tint. There is a nice color selection. I am just hoping they will be more color fast than the dyes. Bruce, there is a flat area on the base that doesn't sho...

I really like it, Chuck. To me the proportions of vibrant color and black are just right and the way you outlined the color with the grooves of natural wood really set it up well. Cosmic cloud is on my list to try.
